Every homeowner knows that eventually they end up needing more storage. One of the biggest areas they need storage generally revolves around their yards. Steel storage buildings and sheds are a great addition to any homeowners property. They give ample storage for gardening tools and equipment as well as storing other items they may not want to have visible in their yards. There are a wide variety of different types of sheds so it is important that you know what your needs are before you purchase one.
Steel is probably your best option for the type of material for your shed because it is very low in cost compared to other materials and it can be painted whatever color you want very easily. Steel also stands up a lot better to high winds and is perfect for areas that are known to have a lot of high winds.
After you decide where you want your shed located and how big you are going to need, you can go and buy the shed that suits your needs and the area that you need for it to cover. Most of these kits however; do not come with floors so you will need to pour your own foundation.
To make your own foundation you should dig a hole that is about six inches in depth and is several inches longer and several inches wider than the shed is. After this you need to fill the hole with at least 4 inches of pea gravel. Then you will take some 2 by 4s and make concrete forms that need to be put all around the area the shed will be standing.
After the boards are laid down it is important that you mix the concrete exactly the way the instructions indicate. Before pouring the concrete you should make sure there is a four inch layer of pea gravel laid down. Pour about four inches of concrete over the gravel and then smooth it out with a piece of wood. You will need to let the concrete slab dry for at least one week before you can construct your shed.
After the concrete is dry you can begin to construct your shed. You need to first lay out the floor tracks and put them together but do not put them on the concrete yet. You will need to fasten the walls together with the fasteners that come with the kit, then you can put the floor tracks down and connect the walls through the holes that are already drilled.
Take the roof panels and hook them together before attaching them to the framing members. After you have done this you can screw the roof panels to the walls. Next you can slide the door into place and use screws to attach to the jamb and then fasten to the wall frame.
Once all of this is done you can then take lag bolts and anchor all of the corners the shed to the concrete slab. This is to make sure that the shed stays exactly where you want it on the concrete flooring. This will also help keep the shed sturdy against high winds.
