Bed bugs in houses are a big issue for the occupants. These annoying pests sustain on warm blood, and if human victims are not available then they target household pets like dogs. In addition, getting rid of them is not simple at all and it warrants a serious bug control drive to do away with them.

Travellers often get bed bugs with them to a new home destination where they reproduce rapidly and begin troubling the residents of the home. They infest beds, furniture, carpets and all such items where they can find holes and crevices.

A common notion about bed bugs is that they grow in places with low standards of cleanliness and hygiene, but this is a misconception. It must be remembered that blood and not trash is what invites these bugs and hence keeping the house spotlessly clean does little to fight bed bugs. However, if the surroundings are kept clean, then the pests can be easily detected.

Another commonly held myth connected with bed bugs is that they can't be seen without an aid as they are very small. In fact, these creatures can be spotted without any difficulty, yet we usually don't see them as they have flat bodies that help them hide easily in narrow cracks of furniture or folds of cloth.

They will usually bite once a week or so, and they can really survive for a long time without feeding - commonly six months, but sometimes over a year.

Bed bugs in a house are best taken care of by knowledgeable pest controllers, so it is prudent to engage the services of such professionals. Of course some home cures do fight bed bugs, like washing bed sheets, carpets and other affected items of clothing in warm water and afterwards exposing them to strong sunshine. Cracks in the walls should be filled with a sealant, and any piece of furniture that has holes should be got rid of to avoid them from turning into breeding grounds for these bugs.
