People tend to avoid blogs that make them so uncomfortable they just have to leave. Unless the intent is to quickly put something together for making money, most people put effort into their blogs for their readers in addition to hopefully making money. So if you want your blog to become more engaging, then encouraging discussions is important - and you do that simply by asking your readers for it. That's right; by adding a small one line question at the end of each post is enough to get a discussion started, which may turn into a debate too. This is obviously intended to make people reply in the comments section which is exactly what you want them to do. Some people will never comment because they may be shy, but there are plenty of others who are not like that and will comment.
Be very sure you organize each written post and put one subheading even on those which are shorter in length. You want to avoid "reader unfriendly" content, and that will encourage people to read the entire post. Avoid what copywriters call, the black wall of text effect, and you accomplish that with short paragraphs. People that are reading content on the Internet don't go through the same experience as those who are reading it offline. This all has to do with spending a lot of time reading content on a monitor, eye strain, etc. You have more control than you realize as it concerns creating the kind of reading environment people will respond to in a positive manner.
You know there are many millions who are using smart phones, so it would behoove you to make your blog compatible with mobile browsing. Internet access is no longer limited to the computer, but it's rather moving to many different devices. So there are only compelling and smart reasons to make it possible for your readers to take your blog with them. You have two options to do this; you can either create an app for your blog or you can create a website that's mobile-friendly. Whatever way you choose to go, just keep in mind that going mobile is the key to success for blogs today.
When you think about it, all business bloggers want to have the largest number of people reading their blogs as possible. None of this stuff is hard to do, but you do need to work at it and stick with the process.
