Dozens of years of investigation and medical experience have shown how much obesity is damaging to health. The annual cost is numerous tens of billions of dollars in the US for all the associated problems linked to obesity. What seems contradictory is the billions that are also spent on weight loss products on a yearly basis. The US has been slowly gaining more weight with each passing year, or so it seems. Several culprits that only intensify this state of affairs are companies that manufacture ready-made foods and unhealthy drinks. Many people are aware of the prevalence of high calorie fats and sugars evident in many types of junk food and drinks. We will talk about some of the negative implications to health caused by obesity.
Type 2 diabetes as a result of obesity has been growing at an alarming rate in recent times. What has become even more scary is the rising incidence of this condition in young people who are also severely overweight. Obesity is recognized to cause insulin resistance which is substantial and a precursor to raised levels of blood glucose. The situation is made much worse with daily consumption of increased amounts of sugar containing goods. For many years, various alerts have been made regarding the use of high fructose corn syrup in most soft drinks and other popular beverages. There is merely no comparison between high fructose corn syrup and processed sugar.
Common issues concerning joints are seen to occur in highly obese people. Obviously the bottom extremeties bear the greatest stress, and so it makes sense that obese people have hip and knee joint difficulties. When the joints experience so much wear and tear, they will create other severe complications such as arthritis. Patients with extreme weight problems do not always make for the best prospects for artificial joints. While huge numbers of people receive joint replacements, there is a higher chance for success with usual weight conditions. Overweight people simply do not have a good option in this case. There are particular risks built in if surgery happens simply because of the mechanics of the overall situation. The increased weight may actually cause the joint being loose that may further damage adjoining bone.
Problems are common concerning the cardiovascular system and specifically high blood pressure. The issue with possessing so much weight is it severely strains the entire body. The existence of so much fat is simply a huge demand for oxygen which is furnished by the blood. It all leads back to the heart obviously since that is what moves the bloodstream. Not surprisingly, the heart must produce a great deal of pressure to keep all that tissue oxygenated. There is also a rise in the heart rate as it works in reaction to all that requirement.
It is quite obvious that obesity is a situation that severely impacts all capabilities of the body. But our conversation here today is only the tip of the iceberg in relation to all that is possible.
