If there was one iconic must-have sports fashion accessory in the 1980's it was Sunpocket shades. Colorful, cool, bold and practical, these legendary sunglasses captured the essence of an era and would be history now if it weren't for a chance encounter in a Norwegian ski resort.
The brand first surfaced in France in the late 1970's and early 1980's, and it became a super trendy item all across Europe soon thereafter, appealing both to street fashion and sports fashion crowds. The mirror-shaded lenses with colorful foldable frames had both a funky and a functional side and people just couldn't get enough of them. Literally. In the Scandinavian countries alone approximately one million pairs were sold. People loved the effortless style and cool which the Sunpocket shades came to represent.
But the 80's came and went and so did Sunpocket until recently. In 2009 Jacob H?glund, a Swede, was at his family's Norwegian ski resort, Trysil, when he happened upon a forgotten vintage pair of Sunpockets. Two years later the classic sunglasses are back, thanks to a revival of passion for the vibrant color and joie de vivre of the 80's. And they're being re-launched true to their original form, just as practical and fashionable as ever.
Today everyone's looking to get their hands on a pair of Sunpockets, which have always been designed with active sports-oriented consumers in mind. They're ideal for both summer and winter outdoor sports, thanks to the uppers which protect your eyes from the sun and the darker lowers which block the glare of the sun's reflection on the snow and water. When heading indoors just fold 'em up and stick 'em in your pocket thanks to their handy design. Plus, Sunpockets are virtually unbreakable and offer 100% UV protection.
The shades come in two different models, Sunpocket Sport and Sunpocket II. The former is made especially for active outdoor pursuits while the latter features classier, more elegant styling. However, the Sunpocket II is still compatible with your active lifestyle. Both models, of course, come in a variety of snazzy colors.
