Florists have been depended on for quite a while for floral arrangements. However, more people are learning how to arrange their own bouquets or decorative pieces. This is both inexpensive and more convenient. You can find loose fresh flowers at the supermarket, sometimes at farmers markets or maybe your own garden. Self floral arranging can save you a lot of money and you can get the quality of a professional on your own.
You would first have to decide which type of arrangement you wish to make. Maybe you're making a bouquet as a gift or a table arrangement as a centerpiece or other decorative conversation piece. There are many different ways to present both types of arrangements and that is where you can get very creative.
Choosing your blossoms is one of the most interesting parts because you can really take a look through the wide variety available and choose your own. It's important to consider if you want to express emotion through your arrangement with floral meaning. You can also just choose a generic color scheme or a Holiday color scheme! Focal pieces should be used towards the middle because you want to draw your eye to that specific point at that time.
Use line pieces such as Snap Dragons and filler pieces such as Baby's Breath to creative variation, spacing and to make your arrangement fuller. You don't want to overcrowd the arrangement because too many main pieces could overwhelm the piece. Fillers are very useful for taking up that harsh blank space that you do occasionally see.
Going back to color, it can be used to express love, friendship, sympathy, happiness, etc... This was created during the Victorian era and is growing back in popularity at this time. You really can say it with flowers.
Branches that you can find in your backyard are very useful in these pieces. There are some flowers that are very fragile and need to be supported. Also, occasionally a larger or piece with more varying heights may not be able to support itself. Instead of running the danger of the piece being ruined by a flower snapping or the arrangement toppling over, use these branches. They can be used as the backbone to support single flowers vertically or weaving the branches for a creative effect to help balance the entire arrangement. Using branches that have leaves can add color as well as support. You have to split them about 2 inches from the bottom to allow the water to be absorbed. The leaves will stay green and healthy.
Using a lazy susan table top tool will help you achieve balance in your piece. You can work from all sides without moving and you can also see the arrangement from different angles. When primarily arranging the smaller pieces, arrange them in your hands or on a table. Once you have the basic outline of what you want, place in a vase and work on adding the focal points and fillers. This will help you achieve the exact look you want.
From these very basic tips, you will be able to elaborate and make your beautiful arrangement that you thought was only possible through a florist. Give as gifts or place on your table for different Holidays, they're fun and cost effective to create. People may even think they're professional arrangements.
