In our world, being able to access fast internet is practically a necessity, both in the workplace and at home. If you are lucky enough to reside in a town or city with cable you don't have to put up with slow dial up internet any longer. Satellite internet services are the rural answer to high speed internet.
You can hardly turn on your TV without hearing fantastic offers for DSL, or cheap packages for TV, phone and internet. How frustrating is it to call up to inquire, only to find out that the service is not offered in your area?
Satellite TV came along and rescued people living in rural areas from regular TV. But internet was still stuck at dial up level.

Finally the government decided that it was important for everyone in the continental U.S. to be able to access high speed internet. At that point, satellite internet services began to expand in a big way. Major service providers now offer these services in areas where other forms of high speed internet are unavailable.
To be able to get internet via satellite, an unobstructed view of the southern sky is required. It has been determined that approximately 5-10% of customers are affected to some degree. Obstacles like trees or tall structures can disrupt the signal resulting in slower speeds.
Satellite internet services may be more expensive than the other kinds of high speed internet, but by choosing a package to suit your needs, it can be affordable. And just think, no more dial up.
