If you think you can tune into any station from around the world. The ability to watch satellite TV has been around since the early sixties. We do not know if the main reason the government put satellites in orbit to watch TV but it is certainly making money from it. And also the government can control much of the use of satellite feeds. They were the ones who put them up there after all.
It is remarkable what people have done to get a better television feed. But if there is money to be made then the technology will follow. Before satellite TV was broadcast over radio waves. And before that we listened to radio for news and entertainment. And before radio it was the Morse code driven telegraph that kept people informed.
And before the radio people kept up with the news through the telegraph system which uses the Morse code to communicate. But now we have satellite in space to beam back images to our television sets. The difference between satellite and cable TV or regular TV for that matter is that it provides a clearer more enhanced picture and audio reception.
This is because of the digital reception of the satellite image and audio. You can easily see this when you compare cable with audio. It is interesting to watch shows on satellite that you are used to watching on regular or cable TV. You can actually see blemishes on some of the stars of your favorite shows. You can see the glare off the tops of heads on TV who have no hair.
It makes watching the same old shows a new and fun experience. Most homes with satellite TV have a direct to home version. This means that they sign up with a satellite television provider, much like a cable TV provider. The stations like premium TV stations are broadcast up to the satellite in space and the providers systems captures that feed with its own satellite and then broadcasts that feed to its customers.
The providers get the feed from the broadcaster and then sell the feed to their customers via satellite dishes on their roofs. The dish acts like an antennae. The people with satellite TV reception can be easily seen around your neighborhood. Just look for those lovely dishes on their homes.
You will still have to have a receiver on your TV to unscramble the feed from the satellite to your satellite dish. The receiver decodes the feed and then presents it on your screen. When many people think of this system they think of unlimited television reception. However this is not necessarily the case.
Perhaps when they compare this with most cable providers they might have more channel choices. But the truth is there is a lot of money in this industry. And money controls. There is also a lot of government intervention and control. You may not know that you are very much limited in what far away stations you can tune into. The government controls the providers to the extent that the choices you get are very much limited by the government and the sponsors of TV shows that do not want you straying away from their commercials they know you love to watch in between you television broadcasts. Whether the way it is now was the way the government envisioned it is anyone's guess.
