Should you be considering getting into the web design industry, studying Adobe Dreamweaver is a fundamental criteria to achieve relevant qualifications acknowledged around the world.
It's also recommended that you become fully conversant with the entire Adobe Web Creative Suite, including Flash and Action Script, to be able to use Dreamweaver commercially as a web-designer. This knowledge can result in you subsequently becoming an Adobe Certified Expert or Adobe Certified Professional (ACE or ACP).
Having knowledge of how to construct a website just gets you started. Traffic creation, maintaining content and some programming skills are the next things. Look for training with additional features that teach these subjects perhaps HTML, PHP and MySQL, as well as E-Commerce and SEO (Search Engine Optimisation).
A sneaky way that colleges make a lot more is via an 'exam inclusive' package and offering an exam guarantee. This looks like a great idea for the student, but let's just examine it more closely:
Obviously it isn't free - you're still being charged for it - the cost has just been rolled into the whole training package.
It's well known in the industry that if a student pays for their own exams, one after the other, the chances are they're going to get through on the first attempt - as they are conscious of their payment and so will prepare more thoroughly.
Does it really add up to pay the training course provider in advance for examination fees? Hold on to your money and pay for the exam at the appropriate time, rather than pay marked up fees - and sit exams more locally - instead of miles away at the college's beck and call.
A lot of extra profit is secured by some training companies that take the exam money up-front. For quite legitimate reasons, a number of students don't get to do their exams and so they pocket the rest. Surprising as it sounds, there are companies around who rely on that fact - as that's very profitable for them.
Pay heed to the fact that, with 'Exam Guarantees' from most places - the company controls how often and when you are allowed to do a re-take. They'll only allow a re-take once completely satisfied.
On average, exams cost about 112 pounds in the last 12 months through Prometric or VUE centres around the United Kingdom. So don't be talked into shelling out hundreds or thousands of pounds more for 'Exam Guarantees', when common sense dictates that the most successful method is a commitment to studying and the use of authorised exam preparation tools.
A so-called advisor who doesn't dig around with lots of question - chances are they're really a salesperson. If someone pushes specific products before getting to know your background and whether you have any commercial experience, then it's definitely the case.
In some circumstances, the training start-point for a trainee experienced in some areas will be largely dissimilar to the student with no experience.
Starting with a user skills course first will sometimes be the most effective way to commence your IT program, depending on your skill level at the moment.
Students will sometimes miss checking on something of absolutely vital importance - how their training provider actually breaks down and delivers the training materials, and into how many separate packages.
Students often think it makes sense (with a typical time scale of 1-3 years to achieve full certification,) for a training company to release the courseware in stages, as you pass each element. However:
What happens when you don't complete every exam? And what if the order provided doesn't meet your requirements? Because of nothing that's your fault, you may go a little slower and therefore not end up with all the modules.
For maximum flexibility and safety, most students now choose to have all their training materials (which they've now paid for) couriered out in one package, all at the beginning. It's then up to you how fast or slow and in what order you'd like to work.
Trainees looking at this market often have a very practical outlook on work, and aren't really suited to the classroom environment, and slogging through piles of books. If you're thinking this sounds like you, try the newer style of interactive study, with on-screen demonstrations and labs.
We see a huge improvement in memory retention when multiple senses are involved - educational experts have expounded on this for many years.
Learning is now available on CD and DVD discs, where everything is taught on your PC. Video streaming means you will be able to see the instructor presenting exactly how to do something, followed by your chance to practice - via the interactive virtual lab's.
Always insist on a training material demonstration from any training college. The package should contain instructor videos, demonstrations, slide-shows and virtual practice lab's for your new skills.
Opt for disc based courseware (On CD or DVD) where possible. You can then avoid all the difficulties of the variability of broadband quality and service.
